Three promises you never kept and
Three small lies that fool yourself
Three sins for which you never paid
So count your mistakes before it's too late
Thought you were safe because it was hidden
Buried in the back of your head
You waited for a long time
Now you're a lover of Lady Regret
She grabs you by the throat and begs you to see
That it all amounts to three
Three promises you never kept…
First mistake was being born
The second one was living on
Your final sin is loving yourself
All this condemned you to a life of hell
And I'll be waiting at the gates of hell
Yeah I'll be waiting at the gates of hell
777 really hits its stride from track 3 onward, making it very difficult to choose a favourite. Yes, the music and vocal delivery are heavily influenced by Electric Wizard, but this is no bad thing given that EW are the undisputed Lords of Doom. Still, Goya are a distinct entity, carving out their own style, and this is pretty damn good for a debut album. The stoned and spaced guitars are amazing. Also, I wish that my past lovers had been as filthy as some of the bass tones on this recording!! Master of Alchemy
